More than half a million people every year visit Château de Chantilly, one of France’s most beautiful palaces. Located an hour north of Paris it was built in 1358, and its princes hosted Louis XIV for lavish banquets. Henri d’Orléans, Duke of Aumale, son of the last French king, Louis-Philippe, in the 19th century, restored the château and turned it into an extraordinary museum, containing the second-largest collection of paintings in France after the Louvre and more than 45,000 books.
