Joshua Berman is a Professor of Bible at Bar-Ilan University. He is known for his views on the history of Jewish belief, and on biblical source criticism, arguing that "knowledge of the cultural context of the ancient Near East" is required in understanding the scriptures. He earned his A.B. at Princeton University in 1987 and his PhD at Bar-Ilan University in 2002. He's also an Orthodox rabbi, and studied at Yeshivat Har Etzion for eight years and taught Bible at the Nishmat Midrasha for several years. He a frequent contributor to The Times of Israel and his articles on biblical theology and contemporary society have appeared in the pages of Mosaic Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. Rabbi Dr. Berman served as a member of the International Advisory Board for the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
