Home is the New Hospital: Unlocking Digital Health (29 IESE Healthcare)

The 29 IESE Healthcare Meeting focused on how we can unlock digital health to turn home into the hospital of the future because, for instance, in the next 30 years, just in Catalonia, the number of patients with chronic conditions will double, and we need to have a system prepared to face that.
Adriana Rubio, President & General Manager at Roche Diagnostics, also pointed out that the population in many parts of the world is aging. And it's important that we shift from a healthcare system that treats to one that prevents.

Núria Mas, professor at IESE and Academic Director of the Meeting, stated that this is an important question to solve because that's what patients are demanding. But also, because focusing on value, there's no particular advantage in doing many things we do in a hospital rather than at home.
Liz Ashall-Payne, CEO at ORCHA, explained that in order to unlock the power of digital health, we need to build a fully connected system that enables distribution, activation, and reimbursement.

For that, Iñaki Moreno, Managing Partner Life Sciences and Healthcare at Deloitte Spain, added that we need to take out of the hospital at least 20% of the activities that we're currently doing in there. Furthermore, we need to be willing to finance, for example, an app to prevent illnesses whose cost will show up much later.

Josep Mª Campistol, Managing Director at Hospital Clínic, exposed that many healthcare professionals are enthusiastic about this shift because they see value in taking care of the patients at home. And that it will also be cheaper for everyone.

Ray Pinto, Senior Director for Digital Transformation Policy, highlighted that data would be essential for this change. However, we won't be able to create innovation if we only have the data of sick people. We will need data from everyone, and that means healthy people too.
