Simulated Canberra Rally Mineshaft

My ragtimer friends Suzi Wiseman and Monty Suffern, I've recently learned, were involved in the Australian Rally Championship in the 1970s and early '80s as navigators. Indeed, Monty was twice national champion as co-driver for George Fury on the Datsun factory team. (Suzi was co-driver for Phil Horan, a privateer Datsun/Nissan effort I think, and, before that, for Peter Glover in a Ford Escort.)

When I learned this, I said, "So you've been down the Mineshaft!" They were surprised that I knew what the Mineshaft was. I said that I knew it from a simulator, but it only had modern (well, 2003) rally cars -- all-wheel drive and one front-wheel drive -- nothing like what they knew in their day.

But I wanted to show them the simulated Mineshaft stage. Well, I did some digging for third-party add-ons to the Richard Burns Rally simulator, and while I could not find any Datsun Stanzas or 1600s, I did find a Ford Escort from the same time period. It didn't work as downloaded from the French site www.rallyesim.com, but I was able to figure out what was wrong with it and get it running.

I'm using the less-powerful 1.8-litre version here, which is harder to get round bends as it's less willing to kick the tail out than the 2-litre version. Tight bends, as you can see, are especially tricky as the handbrake is not available for use. I think I actually need to be more aggressive with it to get it turned.

EDIT: I should have used the much quicker RS2000 version of the car. Monty is already commenting about how slow I am! Hey, I'm no George Fury!

I don't drive the sim very much so don't have the stage memorized, and I've never done it in a rear-wheel-drive car before.

This was recorded just by pointing my camera at my monitor. It has to be from the side not only so I can see the screen, but also because my steering wheel's electronics casing would get in the way (the wheel never leaves my desk; I always have to reach around it to type). So there's a slight angular distortion.
