French designer Christian Louboutin has achieved global fame for his luxury creations, and is widely celebrated for his unparalleled creativity and innovation. His iconic red-soled shoes have not only conquered the global fashion scene but also become a symbol of elegance. Pop icons such as Taylor Swift, actress Zendaya, Barbie director Greta Gerwig, and singer Ariana Grande are among the many stars who have donned Louboutin’s creations.

In this episode of ‘Inner Worlds’, Louboutin welcomes Art Basel into his private residence, his sanctuary nestled in Paris’s first arrondissement. We discover his innermost thoughts, the influences that have shaped his style, and the challenges that have marked his career. ‘When I draw, I have things in mind that I transcribe. And then, little by little, it starts to flow, and at that point I may move onto the idea,’ he says.
‘My job is to design shoes and then make them come to life,’ says Louboutin whose passion for collaboration and the transformative power of art lies at the heart of his work. ‘It always makes me happy when I have a project that is shared. I create something and then people appropriate it, adapt it, and make it their own,’ he adds.

Il nous livre ses pensées, les influences qui ont façonné son style et les défis qui ont marqué sa carrière. « Quand je dessine, j’ai des choses en tête que je transcris. Puis, petit à petit, cela commence à couler, et à ce moment-là, je peux passer à l’idée », dit-il.

« Mon travail est de concevoir des chaussures et de leur donner vie », explique Christian Louboutin, dont la passion pour la collaboration et le pouvoir transformateur de l’art est au cœur de son métier. « Cela me rend toujours heureux quand j’ai un projet qui est partagé. Je crée quelque chose, puis les gens se l’approprient, l’adaptent et la font leur », ajoute-t-il.
