Professor Longhair was a legendary New Orleans rhythm-and-blues pianist whose sound influenced blues, jazz, and rock and roll. His music combined Caribbean and African rhythms associated with the city’s jazz and blues heritage. His raucous style influenced pianists such as Fats Domino, Little Richard, Dr. John, Huey “Piano” Smith, and Allen Toussaint.
