Chapter 69 - Brunei (BWN) to Singapore (SIN)
Today was a travel day, so I headed to BWN, Brunei International Airport, as I booked a flight to Singapore on Royal Brunei Airlines. After passing the Golden Mosque and the police headquarters, I arrived at the very modern Brunei airport much earlier than needed, so I could get a window seat. I made my way to the gates past this large model of a Boeing 787 in Royal Brunei livery, and got to see the real 787 as I waited at the spacious gate. We boarded the Dreamliner as the sunset painted the clouds in shades of orange and pink, then we took off into the sunset. During the short 2-hour flight, dinner of chicken in a delicious crème sauce, spaghetti, grilled mushrooms, a dinner roll and dessert was served. We landed in Singapore in darkness so not much to see. After we landed, the crew invited me to visit the flight deck. I walked through first/business class, and the first office came out to greet me and usher me into the flight deck. The captain was kind enough to introduce himself and the plane. This was the first time I had visited a 787 flight deck, and being able to sit in the jump seat while getting the tour was a wonderful experience. Thanks to Captain Hock and the Royal Brunei crew. Arriving at Singapore’s Changi Airport, which is well known for its passenger experience, was almost anticlimactic after the 787-cockpit visit, and one saw some of the features that make this a world-famous airport. The fishpond with a constantly changing video screen overhead… a slowly changing kinetic sculpture… and finally, the Jewell, a huge indoor rainforest garden with an immense waterfall as its centrepiece. Truly a spectacular sight, especially at night when it is illuminated with colour-changing LED lights. Welcome to Singapore!
