Fly Tying, Terrestrial Ant

A simple Ant pattern, terrestrial insects live outside the water. If they fall into the water due to carelessness or are blown on at certain times of the year (Summer & Autumn), they are a most welcome and an easy meal for fish cruising the margins. The terrestrial insects belong to the likes of grasshoppers, ants, beetles, caterpillars and bees.
I personally don’t often get the chance to target fish feeding on terrestrial insects. I am told that at certain times of year it is the go to method on Llyn Brenig. I dare say it would work a treat on some of the hill lochs in Scotland where there is little cover and the fish rely of the little critters being blown onto the water.
