In 1937, Bernd Rosemeyer and his Auto Union car took victories at the Eifel Grand Prix, the Vanderbilt Cup, the Coppa Acerbo in Italy, as well as the Donington Grand Prix.
It was a tough record to beat, but rival, Mercedes-Benz driver Rudolph Caracciola, had more experience than the young Rosemeyer and he put it to use.
Overall, Caracciola scored wins at the German, Swiss, Italian and Czech Grand Prix's.
While each driver walked away with four wins for the year, none of Rosemeyer's victories were in qualifying events. The season belonged to Mercedes-Benz and Rudolf Caracciola, who with three qualifying Grand Prix wins, took the European Championship for a second time.
