Stephen Brown is a Swing Bridge Operator working in Beaufort, SC. He was the first African American to work for Beaufort County as a firefighter...a post he held for 35 years. After retirement, he was "too young to just sit still" so he got the job as a Swing Bridge Operator.
Brown told us stories of growing up in Beaufort and, how as a child, he always wanted to work on the bridge.
