How it works: For example, if a CPM rate is $5, it means an advertiser is paying $5 for every 1,000 views of their ad. This doesn’t necessarily mean the content creator receives all of that money, but it gives an idea of what advertisers are paying to have their ads shown.
2. RPM (Revenue Per Thousand Impressions):
What it is: RPM refers to the actual earnings a YouTube creator makes per 1,000 views of their content (not just ads). It includes all sources of revenue: ads, YouTube Premium revenue, super chats, memberships, etc.
Who it applies to: RPM is specifically for the content creator. It tells them how much they are earning for every 1,000 views on their videos.
For example, if you earned $50 from 100,000 views, your RPM would be:

100,000 × 1000 = 0.50
×1000=0.50
This means you earned $0.50 for every 1,000 views.
