Pingdingshan Coal Railway in Henan province of central China in 2004 serviced thirteen coal mines all connected to the system which itself connected with China Rail at Pingdingshan East.
The bulk of the traffic involved coal haulage with a regular passenger service for colliery workers and the occasional oil train.
The motive power depot maintained and serviced over twenty steam locomotives for daily use. SY 2-8-2s, JS 2-8-2s and QJ 2-10-2s provided the motive power. The JSs were most numerous although several QJs redundant from other systems were noted in use and more in the works.
The video was shot in and around Shenxi yard with locomotives coming off the depot at the start of the day. Action in the yard then includes shunting, through trains of empties heading for the mines and loaded coal trains arriving back at the yard.
