In this video, the second episode in the Forging a Brown Bess bayonet series, I forge the blade.
The blade is forged from a 100 year old bar of homogeneous carbon steel of unknown chemistry but high carbon content.
The blade is forged deliberately thick in order that it be ground to its final proportions. In this video you will see forging to a trangular section, forging large square tapers, double set-downs and forging to section as well as fullering.
