The American dream is the belief that anyone may achieve success through their own hard work. This powerfully appealing idea not only permeates the culture of the United States, it also has been embraced by countless millions (if not billions) around the world. Jason Scorza argues that global education, properly understood, supports the American Dream by helping people refine their personal visions of success while simultaneously acquiring the capabilities needed to pursue those visions. Paradoxically, global education also disrupts the American Dream by exposing its greatest flaw - the ways in which conditions of severe socioeconomic inequality frustrate both the dreamers and the dreams.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
