EXCLUSIVE REPORT: The Armenian Report team took a trip to the Armenia-Turkey border villages to meet the residents who live in the Bagaran community of Armavir Province in Armenia. Bagaran borders with Turkey.
In the community of Bagaran women not only work in their profession, but also actively engage in agricultural work.
The Armenian Report met with Gohar Avetisyan — a resident of Bagaran.
Avetisyan is a teacher at the school in their village.
She told us that women have to carry water from the spring to their homes since there is no water line in their village. Their village also does not have gas nor transportation.
Despite their living conditions, she tells us that their problems do not depress them. They consider themselves border guards — given that they live at the border with Turkey. But now they are very worried about the news about the possibility of opening the border with Turkey.
“How can you open the doors to your house for the enemy (Turks)? It will smile at your face and shove the knife in your back. It’s impossible to make peace with Turks,” Avetisyan explained to The Armenian Report.
Avetisyan’s response to calling Turks the enemy comes from the 1894-1896 Hamidian massacres of Armenians by the Turkish Ottoman Empire, then again during the 1915 Armenian Genocide where 1.5 million Armenians were violently tortured and killed by Turks. And most recently, the 2020 Artsakh war where with the help of Turkey, Azerbaijan killed thousands of Armenians, took hundreds captive, mutilated elderly Armenians, raped Armenian women, tortured animals owned by Armenians, and is now occupying indigenous lands belonging to Armenians.
