The Sun Rising by John Donne | Explanation and Analysis

Here I have explained line by line and analyzed John Donne’s “The Sun Rising” or “The Sunne Rising”. The Sun Rising is an aubade where the poet complains to the sun for intruding into his room where he is with his lover. He scolds the sun and addresses him as an ill-mannered, old man. He orders the sun to go away and wake the schoolboys, the apprentices, the huntsmen, and the farmers. They are supposed to do daily tasks because they are free from the rags of time.
He boasts to the sun one after another. He boasts that he can eclipse the sun, and his lover’s eyes are brighter than the sun. Moreover, she is the all the states. He will find all the kingdoms in their bed. Therefore, he does not need to go anywhere but rather warm them. Warming them will be enough for everyone. Therefore, he says their bed is the sun’s center and the walls of the room are his sphere.
