Best things to do in St Martin / St Maarten, top 10 experiences for SXM

Here are the top 10 things to do in Sint Martin/Saint Martin.

1-Rent a car, suggest something small if you don’t have a lot of passengers as the roads and parking can be tight. We knew we wanted to get off the beaten path a little so we went with a 4x4 Suzuki Jimny. It was the perfect choice for the island.

2-Go on a boat charter,private if you can afford it or shared to keep costs down a little. We went with Billy Bones and loved it. They offer full or half day trips around St Maarten or a full day to Anguilla that we did. The St Maarten trip is awesome and we did that last year, swam with turtles and had a great lunch in Grand Case. Anguilla was also amazing but more beach hopping and a little cliff jump.

3-Rainforest Adventures was perfect for an adventure for sure. Located more inland and near Phillipsburg it offers amazing views from the top of Sentry Hill. They have a chairlift, a mountain tube slide and the world’s steepest zip line. Can be busy at times with cruise ship passengers so check ahead for a day with less ships in port.

4-Parotte Ville Bird Park is a great place to spend an hour or so. We paired it on the same day as Rainforest Adventures as they are in the same area of the island. Such an experience having the birds fly right up on you. The staff give you a cup on a stick filled with seeds and they land and hang out having a snack. Bring cash and it’s $15 a person.

5-Hike to the natural pool. This can be accessed from the longer route in Guana Bay or a shorter walk from Pointe Blanche. Bring water and wear good shoes for a more enjoyable day. Not sure how long it takes on the short way, but Guana Bay is about an hour each way. There wasn’t a parking lot but it was easy to pull up on the side of the road.

6-Breakfast at the Simpson Bay Yacht Club. Everyone and their dogs are welcome here lol. The food was great and you can’t find a better place to watch the mega yachts float by. Check the times for the Simpson Bay bridge openings before you go if you don’t want to miss it.

7-Phillipsburg is a must visit. The best shopping is here, prices will go down the further you get from the boardwalk but most shops are on front street. This is also the cruise port and it can be very busy some days. Can always check the port schedule first as well. Some great beach bars here and the beach itself is awesome.

8-Hike to Happy Bay, a secluded beach from Friar’s Bay. It’s a gorgeous 10-15 minute walk and very easy. We went early to avoid any potential witnesses of us trying Au Natural for the first time. 🤣 we werent so lucky and i got caught by an older French couple who had the same idea

9-Fort Louis in Marigot, the french side capital city. The views are amazing up there and if you time it right the sunset can be awesome as well. There is a small parking lot that is a little tricky to get to, but Google Maps got us there.

10-Grand Case for beach and linch at a Lolo, a local BBQ restaurant. There are 6 to choose from with similar menus, all are delicious and well priced. Take a quick look under thr pier for a great photo opportunity as well.
