土のかほり　Redolence of the Earth

土の芳香はどこか懐かしさや気持ちを落ち着かせる特別な効果があります。太古から現在にいたるまで連綿として続いていたその香りは「やきもの」にもそっと閉じ込められ、私たちを絶えず癒してくれてきました。
　縄文時代には祭祀や生活の中から必然と生まれた土器が始まります。古墳時代からは埴輪が死後の世界も愉しく生きられるように見守ってくれました。平安時代には「空」「風」「火」「水」「地」の五輪思想が表されていると言われる三筋壷が経塚に多く見られ、室町時代には日本人の美意識の粋が閉じ込められているような古信楽などが誕生しました。近代や現代でもあらゆる角度で作家たちもその空気感を作品に表してきました。戦後、前衛陶芸と言われた鈴木治先生、山田光先生、若き日から鬼才と言われ、現在 90mの大窯を持つ森陶岳先生、備前細工物を際立った感性で現代の姿として追求している島村光先生、常滑で静かに作陶されている青木宏先生の「土の種子」などの代表作を展示いたします。

The relodance of earth has a special effect of making us feel nostalgic and calm. This scent, which has continued from ancient times to the present day, has been gently locked in pottery and has continually soothed us.

In the Jomon period, earthenware was born out of necessity from rituals and daily life. From the Kofun period, haniwa (clay figures) watched over us, ensuring that we could live joyously in the afterlife. In the Heian period, jars with three-lined design, which are said to represent the five elements of the philosophy of "sky", "wind", "fire", "water", and "earth", were often seen in sutra mounds, and in the Muromachi period, Koshigaraki, which seems to contain the essence of Japanese aesthetic sense, was born. In modern and contemporary periods, artists have also expressed this atmosphere in their works from all angles. The exhibition will feature representative works by such artists as Suzuki Osamu and Yamada Hikaru, who were known as avant-garde potters in the postwar period, Mori Togaku, who was praised as a genius from a young age and now owns a large 90-meter kiln, Shimamura Hikaru, who pursues a modern form of Bizen craftsmanship with a distinctive sensibility, and Aoki Hiroshi, who quietly creates pottery in Tokoname, including his representative work, "Seeds of the Earth".
