Welcome to Istanbul, Turkey! 🇹🇷

From historic markets to iconic landmarks, our days were filled with new experiences, delicious food, and beautiful sights. Here’s a full recap of our time exploring this fascinating city where East meets West!

We kicked off our journey flying in from Switzerland to Istanbul and wasted no time diving into local life. After getting settled in our Airbnb, we explored Istanbul’s lively streets, stopping at a local grocery store and sampling our first taste of Turkish pide—a unique take on pizza with a delicious twist!

Day two was all about the Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world with over 4,000 stores! The vibrant atmosphere, narrow alleyways, and seemingly endless stalls of shoes, jewelry, clothes, and Turkish sweets made it a shopaholic’s paradise. We also had our first metro ride—a fun experience despite the bustling crowds!

Day three included a fun stop at a hair salon for the girls, where they left with fresh new looks! We also wandered through a massive electronic market with every gadget imaginable. The girls enjoyed some Turkish tea while Angelique and I took on some shopping—where we ended up finding beautiful rings and shoes at the Grand Bazaar.

The next day was a highlight: we visited the Hagia Sophia, an incredible mosque with a rich history, where visitors can pick up headscarves from vending machines. The building’s architecture and energy were just breathtaking! We followed this with a visit to the Blue Mosque and capped off the day with some classic Turkish ice cream—known for its “magic trick” presentations by the vendors!

We wrapped up our trip by stopping at the filming location of Midnight at the Pera Palace and even ventured to the port where you can catch a cruise out to the Black Sea. Along the way, we spotted the many friendly street cats that roam Istanbul, adding charm to every corner of the city.

This trip gave us a perfect mix of history, culture, and vibrant city life.
