Does Christmas have you stressed out?

Take a step back!

In today's video I discuss an intentional way that our family is celebrating this year, GIFT FREE! I know that may be a bit of a controversial topic for some people, especially considering that we have kids still at home; But, our entire family is very much looking forward to this special day together!

As Christians, the primary reason our family celebrateS Christmas is to remember the birth of Jesus. We have found that many aspects of the holiday season tend to get in the way, and even take precedence over the true meaning of our celebration.

A couple of years ago, we made the decision to make every other Christmas 'gift free.' Instead, we opt to spend the entire day together - with limited technology - reconnecting as a family.

To accomplish this, and make it extra fun, I wrap up small clues as an indication of the activities we can do together. On Christmas Day, we draw names to determine who will choose a gift to open. Whatever is in the package is what we do!

This makes for a very interesting day. We may decorate (and eat) cookies right away in the morning, or go for a skate on the pond after dark.

The day is left completely open ended, to allow for a relaxed environment to enjoy each other - and most importantly - to reflect on the true reason for the season.
