Jira & Confluence Explained (Beginner-Friendly Overview!)

In this session, we explored how Jira and Confluence work together within the Atlassian suite, similar to how apps work within Microsoft Office.

Confluence is your home for documentation static pages, workshop notes, and assignments.
Jira is where active work happens capturing user stories, acceptance criteria, and managing product or feature development through workflow stages like To Do, In Progress, and Done.

We set up a Scrum project in Jira named "Team B" added members for collaboration, and saw how Jira integrates effortlessly with Confluence.

We also covered:

The Board and Backlog views
Reports like burn down, burn up, and velocity charts
Creating Epics (big deliverables consisting of smaller user stories)
Setting priorities, components, start/end dates, and understanding why Epics don’t have story points

You also learned collaboration essentials: assigning tasks, watching tickets, using comments effectively, tagging teammates, and tracking changes through ticket history.

Plus, we explored Jira’s AI feature Rovo which can summarize comment threads to highlight key problems or ideas (with human review, of course!).

Finally, we touched on creating child items like user stories and technical tasks, and wrapped up with action points for the week.
