Tanfield Railway is the Oldest Railway in the World, it’s a Heritage Railway run by Retired Railway Drivers, Engineers and Volunteers.
The Railway line is six miles long and was built in 1725 to transport coal from the collieries in the River Tyne area for shipment throughout the world.
In Part 2 we take a ride on Number 49 Coal Merchant Board Steam Train to Andrews House, where we disembark and take a short walk to see Marley Hill Workshops behind the Station.
This is where Engineers and Volunteers repair and rebuild Trains, Engines, Carriages and Signs.
Barry our guide took us around the Workshops and Sheds, sharing his knowledge and history of the Trains, Carriages and new builds the Engineers and Volunteers were doing at Marley Hill.
We had an awesome time with Barry and fellow train enthusiasts in our group.
It was very interesting looking around Marley Hill and riding on No 49 Coal Merchant Board Steam Train at Tanfield Railway.
