“Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons, meaning they contain only single bonds between carbon atoms. Chemically, they are relatively unreactive due to strong C–H and C–C bonds. Their main reactions include combustion, producing carbon dioxide and water, and substitution reactions with halogens, usually under UV light. Alkanes are nonpolar, insoluble in water, and react slowly compared to other hydrocarbons.
