To store apples properly, it’s essential to harvest them correctly and use good-quality crates, either wooden or plastic. If reusing crates, disinfect them with diluted bleach and rinse thoroughly. When picking, ripe apples come off easily and have black seeds. Use a two-sided ladder and a front-pocket apron for safe picking. Arrange apples so they don’t touch, with the stem facing downward, and store them in a cool place like a garage or basement. The ideal temperature for storing apples is between 8°C and 10°C (46°F to 50°F).
