Daryaganj: A slice of Old Delhi that never gets old !!
Long ago, in the 1600s, when the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the walled city of Old Delhi, Daryaganj was born. It was a busy riverside market where goods arrived by boats through the Yamuna River and that’s how it got its name, Darya (river) + Ganj (market).
Years later, during British rule, Daryaganj became a hub for schools, hospitals and publishing houses. Even after India gained independence, it remained an important spot especially for students and book lovers. Even today, it’s known for its Book Market.
Walking through its streets feels like walking through a museum where every wall tells a story and every corner holds memories from the past.
