In episode 137 of Whisky in SV, I did a blind tasting of Hazelburn’s latest limited release, the 8 Year (2025), against the 12 Year (2022) and the 15 Year (2023). Going in, I’ll admit I was biased against the 8 Year - on a fresh crack, side-by-side with the 12, it came across as noticeably youthful. Honestly, it still bothers me that these releases keep getting younger every year. That said, the blind tasting surprised me. The 8 Year comfortably beat the 12 Year, showing a level of balance and character I didn’t expect. Of course, the 15 Year was in a class of its own—easily the best of the lineup -- but I had to give credit where it’s due: the 8 Year held its own and impressed me despite its age.Lesson learned: never judge a whisky by the number on the label.
