Casertavecchia
Medieval
Town, Italy near Naples. Entering the town and drone flight. Casertavecchia (meaning "Old Caserta") is a captivating, well-preserved medieval village nestled on the slopes of the Tifatini Mountains, northeast of the modern city of Caserta, Italy. It served as the original urban centre of the area before the plain of Caserta was chosen as the main residence by the Bourbons in the 18th century.
The village features typical Italian medieval architecture, including narrow, winding cobblestone streets, ancient stone buildings, archways, and the ruins of an 11th-century Norman castle with its impressive cylindrical tower. The architecture is noted for blending Byzantine, Arabic, Norman, and French Gothic influences.
Duomo di San Michele Arcangelo (Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel) was built between 1113 and 1153, the cathedral is a stunning example of medieval architecture, featuring a beautiful facade and a 13th-century bell tower with an octagonal roof.
The Norman Castle, though mostly in ruins, the remains of the castle and its large tower are a significant historical landmark that can be explored.
