Christian Profiles (Part 2): Lottie Moon and Biblical Love

In our new Christian Profiles series, today we will look at Lottie Moon: a 19-20th century missionary to China.

Discussion or meditation questions:

1. As a young girl, Lottie rejected Christianity. She thought it was hard to believe because of the truth it claimed and the people in the Church. Do you have questions or doubts about Christianity? Share those with someone. If you’re a parent watching this with your family, share doubts you have had with your kids and then tell them why you continue to believe. If you’re using this lesson alone, pick a safe person and express your doubts to them. And, all of us should pray about them, as Lottie did.

2. Do you know any missionaries? Take a look at the back of a bulletin, pick one of GCPC’s missionaries, and pray for them right now. If you’re not on the email list of a missionary, get on one. They’ll gladly accept your prayers.

3. Why do you think the Chinese Christians remembered Lottie most for her love? How did her life express love to them?

4. Think about the definition of true, biblical love that this lesson presented. Then, read Jn. 11:1-44. How does Jesus love Lazarus, Mary, and Martha? Pay particular attention to v. 5-6. They seem to indicate that Jesus loved Lazarus, Mary, and Martha, so He waited for Lazarus to die. How was that loving to them?

5. Think about people who are mean, hateful, or worse to you. How can you love them as Jesus commands in Mt. 5:44?
