Router Security 101: Protecting Your WiFi from Hackers

How to secure your router
When securing the router in your home network, the most important thing you can do is make sure the password to your router’s settings is both complex and unique. If a hacker gets access to your router’s settings, it makes it extremely easy for them to take control of the device (and control the internet traffic going into and out of your home network).

In addition to making sure the password for your router’s settings is unique, you should also secure the following settings:

--WiFi networks: You want to make sure your WiFi networks don’t detail the make or model of your router, you need to make sure you’re using strong encryption settings, and you want to have unique passwords for your networks

--Universal Plug and Play (UPnP): Disabled

--Remote router management: Disabled

--Router firewall: Enabled

--Router firmware: Ensure your router is fully updated

--WPS: it should only be enabled when you are going to use it. Otherwise it should be disabled
