On the 3rd day of our Madhya Pradesh bike trip the plan was exploring the surroundings of Rewa. Rewa is mostly famous for waterfalls and couple of historical forts. But recently we came to know about an ancient buddhist site named 'Deur Kothar' situated at a distance of about 70 km from Rewa city. As we started early morning the roads and the surroundings were covered by dense fog. Gradually the weather cleared. The road conditions were very good. The site of Deur Kothar is well maintained. There is no entry fee, but you have to register your name and vehicle details. However, videography charge is Rs. 25/-.
Discovered in the year 1999-2000 by the archaeological department of Bhupal, these stupas are said to be about two thousand years old and belonging to the Ashoka’s reign. As an attempt to spread Buddhism in the Vindhyan region during the period of Ashoka, the remains of Lord Buddha were distributed to create these stupas. Deur Kothar also has five thousand years old rocky caves which are definitely very intriguing in their appearance. One request to the intending visitors... Please do not litter the place. These are our precious heritage.
Completing a much satisfying visit to Deur Kothar, next we headed towards the Keoti fort. That is for the next episode. So keep watching our channel Sudurer Piyasi for the upcoming episodes.
