Changing the Guard Oslo - The Royal Norwegian Navy Band 13th April 2023

The Royal Norwegian Navy Band, Den Kongleiege Norske Marine Musikkorps supporting the Changing of the Guard parade at the Royal Palace in Oslo on Thursday 13th April 2023. This was actually the first full musical guard parade of the 2023 season!

The march 'Mot Ljusare Tider' literally translates as "To Brighter Days", rather apt for the first Changing of the Guard parade of 2023 after coming out of the winter season where musical support stops!

The Royal Norwegian Navy Band are based in the second largest city in Norway, Horten and are one of 5 professional full time wind orchestras in the armed forces of Norway. These units then share the duties of the daily guard parades during the summer months supporting the various 1 and 2 guard companies from His Majesty the King's Guard who provide the sentries for the Royal Palace. His Majesty the King was in residence during filming. This was noted by the square flag flying above the palace; if swallow tailed it represents that the Crown Prince is in residence.

Personal note:
This was actually caught by surprise as I was not expecting the daily guard parades to be taking place in Oslo during my visit hence why I missed capturing the very start of the parade route from Akershus Festnig and instead started filming on Karl Johan's gate where I was walking at the time and luckily heard the band approaching in the distance!
