Harpsichord built by Robert Wilson, 1986, after Blanchet, 1733. The tuning is lower than present-day concert pitch (A is at 415 Hz instead of 440 Hz). Vallotti temperament was used to tune the harpsichord.
Johann Jakob Froberger (1616–1667) was a German Baroque composer, keyboard virtuoso, and organist. Among the most famous composers of the era, he was influential in developing the musical form of the suite of dances in his keyboard works. His harpsichord pieces are highly idiomatic and programmatic.
Painting credit:
Anne Henriette de France playing the Gamba, Jean-Marc Nattier (1685–1766)
