The TDI Proficiency Standard was designed by John Motil, General Manager of the Tactical Defense Institute. It was first used in our Mastering Pistol Fundamentals class as an assessment of the skills the students arrived with for the class and to see whether they improved upon completion of the course. The drill can be shot at the student distance of 12 feet, the instructor distance of 24 feet, or tailored to your needs based on your level of training. Additionally, you can use a timer and push yourself to be faster while maintaining accuracy. If your hits are all stacked in the center of the target, go faster. If your hits are outside of the target, slow it down a bit and work on getting good hits. We now use this drill as an assessment for almost all our handgun classes, to include our CCW test, and as a competition for the instructors. We hope you have fun with the drill and can push yourself to new levels. Keep training and keep up your skills. – TDI
