Durga Saptashati glorifies Goddess Durga in 700 hymns grouped into 537 sections and 13 chapters It is a part of Markandeya Purana and talks about the slaying of demon Mahishasura by Durga . It is popularly known as Devi Mahatmya in South India and Chandi in West Bengal. It details the exploits of the goddess in Her three major forms: Kali, Lakshmi and Saraswati, representing the three fold energy: strength, wealth and wisdom.
