Terminating CAT5 cable - Traditional vs Klein Tools Pass-Thru RJ45 Crimper

I've terminated a lot of CAT (5/6/7) cables along the way and always used a traditional crimping tool. Recently, for a new network installation (x6 cable runs), I invested in a new Klein Tools Pass-Thru crimper. In this video, I terminate a CAT5 cable, first using the traditional Mills crimper and then the Klein Tools Pass-Thru crimper and then compare both crimpers.

The good thing about the Mills traditional crimper is that the RJ45 plugs are cheap (20p each) and readily available everywhere, so if you're caught short on an install you'll be able to easily get more. However, I don't like the way it strips the cable unless I'm doing this wrong. Additionally, make sure you have access the T568B wiring arrangement.

The Klein Tools crimper is almost idiot proof. You need to be a bit more forward thinking on the supply of RJ45 plugs and make sure you have a good supply. They run at about 50p each (pack of 50) for CAT5 plugs (VDV826-702). However, for me, having the diagram on the tool, both when inserting and cutting the wires is a plus. Whilst the instructions for the Klein tool suggest you can't crimp a non Pass-Thru RJ45.... you can. So be safe in the knowledge that this tool does both types of plugs.

The pass-thru crimper wins for me although I still need more practice with it. Please drop me any comments, experiences with crimpers, crimping, etc..

This approach to a YouTube video took a different journey from previous ones. I first filmed the 'chest' shots sat in a well lit (3 x LED lights) room. As I prepped the cables I didn't worry about the audio knowing that I would just use the video portion (and not the audio). This was about ensuring the focus and lighting was correct. I used my Panasonic S5 with a 50mm Sigma Art lens, shooting at 4k 60fps and V-Log, with a SmallHD 5" monitor.

The talking head shots were filmed in a different room with my Panasonic S1H using a Sigma 20mm Art lens. There was no lighting apart from the room light. It was shot at 4k 24fps and no VLOG. I naively had this idea that I would talk through the chest shots and create the illusion that both shots were taken at the same time. I would then cut repeatedly between the head and chest shots. That didn't work out because the head shots showed me staring straight ahead (because I was watching the playback of the chest shots!) so illusion shattered! So there was no switching back and forth. Framing and focus not brilliant either.

The product shots were taken using my new ORBIT600 360° Photography Ten-Speed 60cm White Motorized Turntable. There's a lot of turntables available on Amazon, but none with good reviews. This one was reasonably priced and can support a person standing on it whilst rotating! I also used my iFootage Shark Slider Nano for the slide past shot.
