RECIPE LOCATION! The Spiked Horseshoe recipe will be learned automatically when you pick up the spiked horseshoe at the Nomad's camp. The easiest one to get is found where there Horse Handler sleeps, outside the small tent behind the bath's, there is a basket with a bag, you need to "Rob" it, the horseshoe is located in the container. There is another one located on the altar when you complete "Horses for Courses", which is the free DLC added with the horse races and mounted archery. These are both located in/around the Nomad's Camp. I have heard if you talk to the Horse Handler, he will show you one but I cannot confirm this at this time.
In the rolling pastures of Semine, where iron meets leather and superstition tangles with honest work, a tale of ambition and alchemy takes shape. Magic Horseshoes is a brief but unique task that blossoms from the dreams of a humble saddler’s hired hand named Janek—an aspiring racer with more heart than coin. Whispers of legendary horseshoes that let steeds gallop like wind and never lose their footing have reached his ears. And he believes you—yes, you—have the skill to forge them.
🟫 Starting the Task
To begin, travel to the village of Semine and speak with Janek, the right-hand man to the local saddler. He’s prepping for a prestigious race and has one request: help him win by crafting the mythical Spiked Horseshoes. In return, he offers Groschen now—and a cut of the winnings if he places first. He’s not just counting on your blacksmithing; he’s betting his dreams on it.
But crafting such mythical horseshoes isn’t as easy as hammering metal. You’ll need knowledge, practice, and the favor of two nomadic masters who live outside society’s reach…
🟫 Learning from the Nomads
Make your way west of Troskowitz, past the forests and old trails, until you reach the Nomads’ Camp, a makeshift haven built from stubborn wood and whispered traditions. Here live Mikolai and Bibrek, two weather-worn but fiercely proud riders and smiths who blend horse lore with smithing sorcery. If anyone knows the truth of the spiked horseshoes, it’s them.
To earn their respect—and the recipe—you’ll need to complete the Horses for Courses quest, which acts as a racing and mounted archery tutorial. Ride fast, shoot true, and impress both masters. It’s more than a test of skill; it’s a rite of passage. Only once you’ve passed will they share the ancient knowledge—imbued with tales of steppe warriors, Mongol cavalry, and the black steeds of Moravia. Once the argument ends, you can grab the Spiked Horseshoe from the altar you are standing next to.
🟫 Crafting the Spiked Horseshoe
After completing both challenges and witnessing the cutscene between Mikolai and Bibrek, you can obtain the coveted Spiked Horseshoe from the altar. Now, head to the nearest forge and prepare to create a symbol of speed and fortune. You’ll need the following materials:
2x Iron
1x Scrap Metal
1x Fastening Material
Make a save before crafting, and avoid overheating or hammering inconsistently. A Level 3 or higher quality is ideal if you want to live up to the “magical” part of the promise.
🟫 Delivering the Dream
Return to Janek in Semine with the crafted horseshoes. He’ll reward you immediately with a modest sum—but more importantly, he’ll promise that in two days’ time, he’ll return from the race. If all goes well, and your handiwork holds true, he’ll split the prize money with you. A wager of sweat, steel, and trust.
🟫 Race Day Results
Wait two in-game days and revisit Janek. If your horseshoes served him well, he’ll make good on his word and give you a generous bonus. You won’t see any banners raised in your honor, but in the whispered legends of Kuttenberg, your name might ride alongside the best.
💬 Lore Spotlight: The Truth Behind Spiked Horseshoes
Spiked horseshoes are not just a gimmick in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II—they’re based on medieval enhancements used in harsh terrains. Crafted with metal spikes to dig into ice or unstable paths, these shoes granted warhorses greater balance in battle and hunts. Some records suggest nomadic tribes of Eastern Europe forged such shoes as offerings to Tengri, god of the eternal blue sky, asking for favor in hunts and races.
In KCD2, this real-world inspiration collides with a slightly exaggerated tale of superstition and ambition. Janek doesn’t just want to win—he believes in the magic. And maybe, just maybe, it’s that belief that carries him across the finish line.
🛠 Forge with care, ride with faith, and remember: sometimes, belief is the strongest metal of all.
