January 18th, 1993. Geraldo Rivera on his namesake talk show brings us four 'Girl Gang-Bangers. One retiree, a member of The Crips, a Chicano gang and 'G-13'.
"I lived in the neighborhood, and they kicked back right in front...I kicked back with all them. I just, you know, wanted to kick back with them.."
The girls recount their experiences, how they joined the gangs they are claiming to represent. They have witnessed death, carry guns regularly, and live a fearful life full of violence and crime.
One of the girls alludes to no opportunity in other areas of life, she saw her friends doing it, and this is why gang life appealed so much. The girl who claims to have gotten out of gang life says there is hope for all the girls on stage, there's always a way out.
Towards the end of the segment we hear from Maryann Diaz Parton, a former gang member herself who now works solely on rehabilitation.
