One of the most famous Oasis gigs right here. Oasis are back in the Barras for the first time since 1994, and this is a special gig, especially considering this is the city that got them their record deal. The crowd on these shows as many know are absolutely fantastic, but this show in particular has one of the most palpable atmospheres of any Oasis gig you’re bound to listen to. Nowhere is this more evident than on the face of Noel Gallagher, who is absolutely relishing every moment. His mini-set tonight is iconic. Half The World Away and Whatever in particular have some brilliant audience participation, and the audience even sing the Octupus’ Garden outro by themselves. And bare in mind, this is only a small venue, not a big stadium where you’d expect such an atmosphere. Liam dedicates Live Forever to the Scottish city.

The show was recorded as a TV special called “Oasis: 10 Years of Noise and Confusion” which included most of the gig, apart from The Hindu Times, Live Forever and Hung in a Bad Place. For the two new songs, it’s obvious it was down to not letting the new songs leak. As for Live Forever probably down to the runtime of the programme. The performance itself is very good from the band, particularly some nice psychedelic playing by Noel in Gas Panic. However Liam’s voice is not in the best shape. As long as he doesn’t push into his upper range he sounds fine, but on songs where he needs to go high, like Morning Glory or The Hindu Times it sounds very sore or gives out. But given everything else is so positive, it doesn’t detract from the performance too much. I’ve used the rare audience source for this gig to patch in any form of missing banter, breaks between songs, and the aforementioned songs that were absent from the original broadcast, which brings the runtime closer to the usual for these mammoth gigs.
