The Kirkland Outdoor Trail Socks Review

The Kirkland Outdoor Trail Socks are sold at CostCo, on Ebay, Amazon and other retailers like Walmart. The socks are a single layer of wool on the outside and a nylon-like inside to prevent itching. The socks wear farely tight but thats to keep the sock properly pushed up so it doesnt fall when wearing boots. These are single layer socks and are not as bulky. I bought these socks 4 pairs for $12.00 at a local Costco. I saw online on Ebay these same socks 6 for $21 which is still a great deal.

The Kirkland socks, as stated on the packaging, are 72% Merino wool, 27% Nylon and 1% Spandex. In comparison to the regular cotton socks I wear these do feel warmer. The Kirkland socks do not offer a lot of extra padding like true hiking socks.

My conclusion is these are not true padded hiking socks, but will be an upgrade during the winter months from your cotton socks. There are better socks out there which offer a thicker weave of wool or double insulation and provide generous padding. However, these socks are a great value versus regular cotton socks during the winter. They will provide a bit more warmth as if your feet are wearing a pair of basic thin wool mittens which were purchased from as store like Walgreens.

So these socks are a good value, but if you are looking for a high end hiking or ski sock you might want to pass on these. Keep in mind such high end socks cost $15+ for one pair. These socks go for $11 for 4 pairs at Costco and $18-24 for 6 pairs online.

I am happy I got these socks as they will provide upgraded warmth to my feet versus the usual cotton socks I wear.

Update: After wearing the socks for a day I found them much warmer than conventional cotton socks and at one point I thought they were even too warm as the weather crested over 60 in the day time. As I stated above, I would not expect the ultimate warmth, but a significant upgrade over conventional cotton socks.
