因爲老成昆線建設年代久遠（上世紀60-70年代），線路條件受限，已無法滿足成都~昆明間日益增長的客貨運需求，2019年起，「新成昆線」（成昆複線）分段逐步投入使用，頻繁使用「長橋梁」、「長隧道」，雙線電氣化鐵路最高時速達160km/h，徹底打通了「成昆瓶頸」！
