因爲老成昆線建設年代久遠(上世紀60-70年代),線路條件受限,已無法滿足成都~昆明間日益增長的客貨運需求,2019年起,「新成昆線」(成昆複線)分段逐步投入使用,頻繁使用「長橋梁」、「長隧道」,雙線電氣化鐵路最高時速達160km/h,徹底打通了「成昆瓶頸」!
