How to use a Mill as a Surface Grinder (precision for cnc building punks)

Surface grinders are great for making precise parts, but what if you don't have one? It is quite possible to use a mill instead, even a small mill-drill like our "X3 super mill".

The main problem with most mills is that the rpm will be too low to give a good surface speed at the face of the grinding stone. This can be overcome by using the highest speed on the mill (only once the stone is dressed and running true) and using a large dia. wheel. Friends, please be careful with second-hand (and even new) grinding stones - if they are not sound they can fly apart!
Also, beware the nasty dust, PPE is a must.
