The HGS locomotive was a heavy goods steam engine (HGS) of the 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type,
originally built for use on British Indian railways in the early 20th century. After the partition of the Indian subcontinent, many of these locomotives were inherited and continued to be used by Pakistan Railways. A few have been preserved and occasionally run for heritage and tourism purposes.
Origins and initial service
Standardized design: The HGS was based on the HG (Heavy Goods) class, which was part of a series of standard locomotives developed by the British Engineering Standards Association (BESA) beginning in 1903.
Purpose-built: As a "Consolidation" type engine, it was specifically designed for hauling heavy freight trains.
G/S class steam locomotives are still active in Pakistan, both locomotives are made in England by Vulcan Foundry in 1916 and 1923, locomotive numbers were 2277 and 2306, these locomotives were participated as north western Railway in early 20th century in subcontinent, later these locomotives use to be the part of Pakistan Railways,
