Michigan had the final shot in a fireworks display never before seen in their 131-year history, outlasting Illinois 67-65 in triple OT in Ann Arbor. Roy Roundtree had a record-setting day with 246 receiving yards on 9 catches for two TDs (75, 33). Junior Hemingway added 6 catches for 104 yards and 2 TDs (45, 9) and also caught the winning 2-point conversion. Denard Robinson passed for 305 yards and 3 TDs on a 10-for-20 day before leaving in the fourth quarter with a possible concussion. Tate Forcier went 12-19-114 with 2 TDs, including a game-tying 9-yarder to Darryl Stonum with 1:47 remaining.
Vincent Smith led on the ground with 73 yards on 13 carries, while Michael Shaw scored 3 TDs on his 9 carries for 44 yards. Stephen Hopkins added 5 carries for 45 yards and a TD.
The much-maligned defense bled points all day long but made the game-winning play, as Craig Roh and Jonas Mouton sacked Nathan Scheelhaase on Illinois' two-point conversion attempt in the third OT.
