SUMMARY of Video:
Stuffed up nose for your baby? This has helped thousands of parents out there to give their littles better sleep by unclogging, and thinning out their mucous and soothing their nasal passages!
~DISCLAIMER - I am NOT a medical professional. But the pediatrician I consulted told me this was safe for my child. Consult your pediatrician for your child.
10 Tips (all are more thoroughly explained in the video starting at 2:29)
1. DO NOT USE TAP WATER --(USE LUKEWARM DISTILLED WATER WITH SALINE!)
2. Use Distilled Water
3. Add appropriate dose of Saline
4. Syringe - (you don't need the kind I used...buy a normal one, cut the tip off, use a nail file to file it down, then rinse with distilled water before using)
5. Lukewarm Water Temp!
6. Test on yourself before baby (use a different syringe/neti pot for yourself to check how it feels)
8. Holding Baby/Positioning
9. Talk to your baby - Help prep Baby for what to expect since you'll be repeating this!
10. Reward your baby! (With honey IF baby is over 12 months... to soothe cough...do NOT give Honey to babies under 12 months!)
SYRINGE: If you can't find the large cooking short tip kind of syringe that you see me use, that's fine. ...You can also use a normal (like for medicine) syringe found in any drugstore and cut off 90% of the tip, then file down the edges, using a nail file (and rinse with distilled water) so that your syringe can have a short tip, and thus, not hurt your baby's nose!
UPDATE ON COMMENTS & Frequently Asked Questions:
#1 "Don't give your baby honey"! - honey is to be avoided the first 12 months. As mentioned in the video my baby was over 12 months.
#2 "Is this safe for a 1 month old, (or insert young baby age here)... Yes, it is perfectly safe as long as you keep the mouth open, and follow all instructions. You may use a smaller syringe - pick one up at any drugstore and file down the tip like I describe above.
#3. Here is how to do an ADULT Nasal Rinse - FROM THE MAYO CLINIC: • Sinus Rinsing With Saline or Medication
I would suggest doing an ADULT nasal rinse on yourself several times to experience it, and understand it- before helping facilitate your child's nose rinse.
