Southern 154: Finale Ramblers Along the Tennessee River

On December 16 and 17, 2023, I visited Knoxville, TN, to see the Three Rivers Rambler for the first time. On this visit, I was treated to seeing Southern Railway 154. Built in 1890, this 2-8-0 would haul the TRR's yearly Christmas Lantern Express for the 2023 steam season. What made this occasion was that this was, originally believed, 154's final weekend of public excursions before going down for its FRA 15-year inspection. I was glad and lucky to see the locomotive for the first time. In this video, enjoy 154 run from downtown Knoxville along the Tennessee River to the other end of the line over two separate days in geographycal order.

Origianlly believed 2023 was 154's final year of operation, it was discovered on April 24, 2024 that 154 would operate one more time this year before offically going down for its FRA 1,472 day inspection. While I unfortunately wasn't able to see the locomotive myself this year, I'm more that happy that I got to see it last year. Hopefully, we'll someday see Southern Railway's oldest operating steam locomotive return to service in the future. Enjoy the video!
