In today’s video, I forged a razor-sharp custom knife using a car suspension spring and finished it with a beautiful, durable antler handle. Every step in this knife-making process was done by hand in my workshop, focusing on precision, heat treatment, and craftsmanship.
The raw material – an old automotive coil spring – was transformed through intense forging, careful grinding, and proper tempering to bring out its full potential as high-carbon steel. This type of spring steel is known for its toughness and edge retention, making it perfect for high-performance blades.
Once the blade profile was forged and shaped, I moved on to refining the bevels and establishing a perfect edge geometry for ultimate sharpness. After the hardening and tempering process, I continued with detailed polishing and finishing work to highlight the blade’s clean, aggressive lines.
The handle was crafted from naturally shed antler, carefully shaped to fit the tang of the blade securely. The combination of bone and steel gives this knife a unique aesthetic and perfect balance in hand. The handle was sanded smooth, sealed, and polished for durability and grip comfort.
This project is a great example of recycled steel knife making, and how you can turn scrap into a functional piece of art. Whether you’re a bladesmith, a blacksmith, or just someone who appreciates handmade knives, you’ll enjoy watching this transformation from automotive spring to razor-sharp blade.

👇 Let me know in the comments what you'd like to see next — maybe forging from a lawnmower blade, leaf spring, or even a chainsaw chain?
Thanks for watching and supporting handmade craftsmanship.
