The wave of defections we witness across Nigeria’s political landscape is not an accident, it’s a symptom. Our political parties are not anchored on any coherent ideological principles. Instead of being vehicles for national development, they have become platforms for seizing power and accessing public resources.
This isn’t just bad politics, it’s dangerous. No country can grow when power is pursued for profit rather than purpose. Our parties are not building systems, they’re breaking them down. They are more concerned with elections than institutions, more focused on control than on service.
In truth, most Nigerian political parties operate like vote-gathering associations. They lack any consensus on development. Yet, democracy, flawed as it may be, is the only platform through which we can negotiate our collective progress.
