"Of the Father's Love Begotten" comes from a work by the Spanish poet Aurelius Clemens Prudentius, probably written around 400 AD. It was translated into English by Sir Henry Williams Baker and John Mason Neale.
The tune is 'Divinum Mysterium' is a plainsong chant associated with the “Divinum mysterium” text in manuscripts dating from the twelfth to fifteenth centuries. The tune was published in Theodoricis Petri's Piae Cantiones in 1582.
