This railway station was officially opened on April 1, 1930 under its original name,
"Warin Station", as it was located in Warin Chamrap District. The sign from this early period used the English spelling
VARINDR.
Later, in 1942 , the station's name was changed to
"Ubon Ratchathani Station". The second-generation signs began to appear with the English spelling UBOL RAT THANI.
The final change occurred following the implementation of the Royal Thai General System of Transcription (RTGS) in 1999. This led to the current official spelling of the station signs as
UBON RATCHATHANI.
More than just a sign, the nameplate of Ubon Ratchathani Railway Station reflects a true historical evolution of place names and transliteration in Thailand.
