The Empire of Vietnam, or Đế quốc Việt Nam was a short-lived puppet regime and caretaker government under Prime Minister Trần Trọng Kim imposed by Imperial Japan between March 11 and August 25, 1945. As there was no actual power and having not been recognized by the other powers because the government was closely associated with the Imperial Japanese Empire. The government of Trần Trọng Kim did not possess Congress, military and nor even international recognition besides the Imperial Japanese Empire. The cabinet was disintegrated when revolutionary movements emerged, and superpowers tried to influence Vietnam. Conscious of these issues, the intellectuals of Trần Trọng Kim’s government chose to hand over the power to a Việt Minh-led government without bloodshed. Trần Trọng Kim’s cabinet withdrew peacefully in order to empower a new generation of politicians and revolutionaries. Unfortunately, Vietnam had quickly descended into fighting between the Việt Minh, the Vietnam Nationalist Party, Trotskyists, Socialists, Democrats and other factions between 1945 and 1946. The Empire of Vietnam was a member of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. It was ruled by the Nguyễn dynasty and created when Emperor Bảo Đại declared 'independence' for Vietnam from French colonial rule

Hùng Lan (1922 – 1986) was a Vietnamese musician, author of the songs "Hè về", "Khỏe vì nước", "Việt Nam Minh Châu Trời Đông", which was the national anthem of the Empire of Vietnam, the party anthem of the Vietnam Nationalist Party and Đại Việt Nationalist Party. He was also a music professor and the man who initiated the usage of Vietnamese language to sing hymns, he was also the composer of Vietnamese lyrics for the famous song "Silent Night" with the title "Đêm thánh vô cùng".
